The sentiment reminds me of something a (roman-Catholic) priest once told me after confession. Whatever situation you are in, whatever challenges you face, "it helps to think of it not as 'this is happening TO me' (how terrible), but instead 'this is happening FOR me'."
To trust that God has a plan for you (like the wager by the way, no matter if such a god actually exists), and that he will never put a challenge in front of you that you could not overcome, can also be a helpful belief.
I feel like there’s something similar to this in some Orthodox Christian prayers except perhaps even deeper. The idea that not just everyone but everything you encounter is sent to you by God in order to guide you somehow to Theosis.
